Sharing the World's Resources Will End Hunger and War, Inspire Peace and Create Justice
75Sharing is the way forward
Sharing the world’s resources more equally is the way to real
justice and lasting peace.
More than 80% of the world’s food and resources is used and wasted by only 20%
of the world’s population — mainly in the developed world. Almost half the
world’s population subsists on less than a dollar a day. This inequality forms
the basis of violence, environmental degradation, crime, and social unrest. The
greed of a few has placed the entire planet at risk.
Living together as one human family
Humanity is one family; and the earth’s food, raw materials, energy, and
technological resources belong to everyone equally, not just to those
individuals who can afford to buy these resources and those governments who
control the global economy.
For the survival of present and future generations, the call for a just
redistribution of the world’s resources needs to be sounded from the masses -
so that all may have the basic necessities of life: food, shelter, health care
and education.
Restoration of the environment
Restoration of the environment also needs to be a priority on a worldwide scale
so that we can eradicate disease and restore balance to nature. We have seen
cancer and other diseases reach epidemic proportions. We have seen the effects
of nature's imbalance in devastating disasters such as Hurricane Katrina. We have
witnessed the greed that has created man-made disasters such as the BP oil fiasco. We
have seen the inadequate responses that followed. We are directly related to
our natural surroundings – and vice versa. It is a reflection of who we are and
what we are made of. If we want to be pure of body and mind we need to purify
the environment in which we live.
The old ways no longer serve humanity's needs
It should be obvious to those with eyes to see that our current systems and
methods of the recent past no longer work – especially where the economy is
concerned. Returning to the old ways will not make things better. If they
didn’t work before, why return to them now? We need new systems that will
benefit all of the people – not just a select few. The status quo needs to go –
and those who are attempting to revive that status quo need to go with it. The
failure of government is precisely their failure to look after the true needs
of the people. Their failure is our suffering – a glaring example of which is
the current and constant battle in the U.S. over unemployment benefits.
Calling it socialism to meet the needs of one’s own people is not only daft,
it’s just plain ignorant. We need people in power who actually understand the
needs of the people – not the concepts, but the actuality and reality of
people’s everyday lives – and through that understanding will work for the good
of the whole.
The choice is ours
It is up to every one of us to join together as a unified voice and sound
the call for justice. It is up to us to create the world in which we wish to
live. We have a choice. We can continue on a path of destruction and chaos
where the few control the resources and the many suffer needlessly. Or, we can
begin to realize that we have the power to change it. We can and should demand
that our governments develop systems that meet the needs of everyone.
The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights should be enforced on a worldwide scale. The people deserve nothing less than
at least the basic necessities! Article 25 (1) states: “Everyone has the right to
a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of
his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary
social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment,
sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in
circumstances beyond his control.”
Historically speaking
Throughout History - especially at times of great crisis - great teachers have
emerged to show humanity the next step forward. We know some of them as Moses, Krishna, Buddha, Christ and Mohammed - who later became
religious icons. However, did they set out to be religious leaders? It’s
possible they did not. It’s possible they simply came to teach the art of
living and show us how to relate to one another with kindness and compassion –
from whatever perspective they may have taught – religious or not. In any
event, it can be ascertained that each came to teach about life – and how to
relate to each other and our world.
We are not alone in our efforts
It is now becoming commonplace knowledge that another such wise teacher is
emerging onto the world stage at this current time of tumultuous change. Millions
of people have heard about this historic event now unfolding. Its primary
source has been an author from London,
named Benjamin Creme; who is also the editor of Share
International magazine
– a publication that accepts no commercial advertisements.
Creme
speaks of a group of advanced teachers, known in the East as the Masters of
Wisdom or the Lords of Compassion. For thousands of years they have worked
“behind the scenes” guiding humanity in all fields of endeavor and stimulating
movements for change. At their head is Maitreya, the World Teacher. Once again,
a great figure is emerging into modern society who comes simply as a teacher –
although with extraordinary wisdom, insight and experience. He will show us how
to create modes of living that will benefit all people as well as the
environment. Soon, these great teachers will be living openly among us –
inspiring humanity as a whole to create a just society where unity and peace
are the norm – rather than chaos and injustice.
What we can do?
By urging our governments to create a just distribution of world resources,
we will create a climate of true brotherhood and lasting peace on earth. If we
join as one collective voice, we will create a “brilliant new civilization –
such as the world has never seen.”
